A beautiful new project is in the works for Northern Italy’s Lake Iseo. “The Floating Piers” by large-scale, avant-garde artist Christo, will rise above the surface of the water, as “70,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric, carried by a modular floating dock system of 200,000 high-density polyethylene cubes, will undulate with the movement of the waves,” according to a press release from Christo.
“The Floating Piers” will be on view from June 18 to July 3, 2016, and visitors can trek across this work of art from Sulzano to Monte Isola and to the island of San Paolo via a 3-kilometer-long walkway. When the 16-day installation concludes, the components will be removed and industrially recycled.
